Objective

The course teaches techniques of self-evacuation from a ditched helicopter and how to safely master these techniques under real conditions. The rescue techniques and handling the protective equipment can be trained in all weather conditions, and by day or night. Our Helicopter Underwater Escape Training course uses the Compressed Air Emergency Breathing Systems (CA-EBS) STASS and HEED.

Teaching content

  • Theory:

  • Hazards of flights over water
  • Collective rescue equipment and personal protective equipment
  • The helicopter’s emergency equipment
  • Behaviour during the flight
  • Action to be taken during ditching and subsequent evacuation
  • Handling Compressed Air Emergency Breathing Systems (CA-EBS) like STASS and HEED
  • Special measures depending on the type of helicopter
  • Hypothermia and drowning
  • Practice:

  • Water confidence exercises
  • Underwater evacuation from a vertically sinking helicopter
  • Underwater evacuation from a capsized helicopter
  • Using the life raft

Target group

Persons working or remaining in dangerous offshore environments, helicopter crews and passengers who fly over water.

Prerequisites

A minimum of physical fitness is expected. Participants must not have any health-related restrictions, especially of the respiratory tracts, cardiovascular diseases or spinal disorders.

In accordance with youth protection legislation, the minimum age for participation is 18 years.

Number of participants

4 to 12 persons

Certificate

A certificate will be awarded on successful completion of the course and a corresponding entry will be made in the participant’s safety pass

The certificate is valid for four years.

General information

Please bring swimwear, towels, a change of clothing and personal hygiene articles. The rescue equipment needed for the course will be provided.
