summary of GWO training standard changes
The Globald Wind Organisation (GWO) regularly reviews and updates its existing standards, in order to meet the changing requirements of the wind energy workforce, ensuring high--quality, efficient and sector-relevant training.
In total, eight new standards were released in March 2026. Each standard varies in the degree of change. The following standards which are carried out by OffTEC are affected:
- Basic Safety Training (BST)
- Advanced Rescue Training (ART)
- Enhanced First Aid (EFA)
The changes within the affected training modules are explained below.
The mentioned changes will be implemented in OffTEC trainings in due time by September 2026.
GWO Basic Safety Training (Version 20)
The duration of Refresher Training will be shortened. The Refresher Training will focus on scenario-based delivery.
The combined Manual Handling and Working at Height will be discontinued. To obtain valid training records participants must attend each module individually.
Valid Basic Safety Training records can be renewed by attending an Initial or Refresher Training. Refresher Trainings will be delivered independently of Initial Training. Participants attending Refresher Trainings need to have a valid training record of the module being refreshed.
The updated Working at Height module ensures alignment with manufacturer requirements and industry standards. Furthermore, there has been clarification on the use of ladder rungs as anchor points.

A new lesson has been added to the Sea Survival module to ensure awareness of motion-compensating gangways (Walk-to-Walk). A Refresher Training has been added to the module.

GWO Advanced Rescue Training (Version 6)
The Single Rescuer Modules will be integrated in Advanced Rescue Training. Independent Single Rescuer Modules will be discontinued.
Attending Advanced Rescue Training Nacelle Refresher will no longer renew the Working at Height and Manual Handling training record. In order to obtain the mentioned training records participants must attend each module individually.
The duration of Advanced Rescue Trainings will be shortened to two days.
The module ensures alignment to rigging and movements methods with equipment manufacturers and best-practice methods.
